The United Way Community Event of the Year Award Winner - Burlington
Burlington Mall is the proud receipient of The United Way Community Event of the Year Award for Burlington 2011. This award was presented to Burlington Mall in recognition of our Christmas Gift Wrap program which raised $12,370 in support of United Way Programs.
The 2012 Christmas season was another successful year for the Gift Wrap program raising $11, 600, for local community programs. Burlington Mall would like to thank all the volunteers from the United Way who donated their time and our Burlington Mall customers for thier monetary donations. 100% of the donations going to the United Way.
United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton sees the big picture with respect to the programs it supports and how it goes about its work addressing immediate community needs and long-term changes. Reaching goals and fulfilling strategies depends on a multitude of strong community partnerships and initiatives.
Burlington Mall realized three years ago that it could provide an opportunity as well as resources to support a new United Way fundraising initiative during the Christmas season. What does everyone buy at Christmas? Presents. What does everyone not want to do? Wrap them. This concept would create awareness of United Way programs and funding needs during a high-traffic period and at a time of year when most people are apt to make charitable donations. This event came at no cost to the United Way. All proceeds collected through donations would go directly to United Way funding commitments.
Burlington Mall would provide gift wrap, ribbon and bows by the bushel, along with a wrapping station in a prominent location in the mall. United Way had eager volunteers ready to staff the stations. Shoppers purchases from the mall are beautifully gift wrapped in exchange for a donation to the United Way. Now going into its third year the Christmas gift wrapping station has become a Burlington Mall/United Way tradition and a 'win-win' situation for all, especially the 'all thumbs' shoppers who truly appreciate the convenience this offers them.
Burlington Mall has also welcomed United Way as a partner in its 'A Day to Remember' event for seniors. This has been held each November, for more than 30 years, as an advent to the Christmas season. Residents from long-term care facilities are brought to the mall for shopping. A lunch, sponsored by Burlington Mall, is prepared and served by United Way volunteers to all guests.
Christmas is a time for giving, and Burlington Mall is happy to start a tradition of that right alongside the United Way.
